When you first log into the admin area, you should see a list of admin areas,
each with a "click here to expand" link. Click the link to view options for each area.

Once expanded, each area is broken down by individual options and instructions for each option.

The best rule of thumb it to make a few changes and then view your store so you can see how each option change effects your store view. Keep in mind, some options are not visible...
they are settings to tell the program how to function, rather than simply how to display.

First option to set,

Mark the checkbox for "empty cpshop cache when i save changes".

This ensures that as you make changes to your store's display, you will have the most current display.
(rather than viewing cached files)
